Is your marketing working properly?
A twelve question audit for creative owner-operators.
Answer honestly, not how you wish things were or know they “should” be. Anywhere you answer no is worth looking into, and it's a good indicator of what to do first.
01 Finding New People
Do you know specifically where your new customers are finding you right now?
In the last month, has at least one person who had never heard of you before found your work and done something about it?
Do you know whether what you're currently doing to get noticed is reaching new people, or mostly just the ones who already know you?
02 Telling Them What To Do
If a stranger landed on your social media profile or website right now, or saw you at an in person event, would they know within five seconds what you do and what to do next?
Wherever someone first finds you, is there one clear thing you want them to do next? Buy now, sign up, follow, and so on.
Have you tested your own setup as a stranger recently, clicked the link, filled the form, checked it worked?
03 Staying In Touch
Do you have a way of staying in touch with people who have already found you and shown interest?
On a fixed date every month, do you send or post something to the people who already know you?
Do the people who already know you hear from you regularly enough that they wouldn't forget you exist?
04 Understanding The System
If you needed to grow your number of customers, do you know specifically what to do about it?
Do you know roughly what it costs you, in time or money, to get one new customer?
Do you have a regular point where you actually check whether your marketing is working?
